There was much excitement in the Year One rooms this week, with the culmination of our mathematics money unit taking place, the well-awaited ‘Shopping Stalls’. Over the past couple of weeks, the students designed their own shops, giving it a name, creating and pricing the items they wanted to sell, and designing posters to advertise their fabulous stores. Children throughout Year One learned new skills in giving exact money using multiple coins, accurately pricing items and using their advertising skills to sell their product. They were able to purchase items of interest from their peers’ stalls, by first seeking a loan from the ‘bank’. What fun it was!
