Japanese Lesson Study (JLS) at Eltham North Primary School

What is lesson study?

Japanese Lesson Study (JLS) is a collaborative activity that involves a small team of three teachers gaining a deeper understanding of how students learn to improve student acheivement in mathematics. Teachers routinely share resources and ideas as they plan, design, teach, evaluate and refine lessons for a unit of work.

Throughout this process the teachers focus on making their lessons more effective as a means of improving students' thinking and learning. Reports generated from the lesson study experience can be shared with other teachers interested in implementing a similar professional learning process.

New Stainless Steel Drink Bottle:  For two months we have been working with a company to produce a drink bottle that meets our needs. We wanted an inbuilt filtration system and stainless steel construction.  Here it is...

We have negotiated to make the 'Seychelle' Silverwater Technology water filtration drink bottle available for purchase for $25.

Maths Olympiad

Maths Olympiad 2009:  Thirty Level 4 students competed in 2009 Australasian Problem Solving Mathematical Olympiad.  This is a competition where the students answer five extremely difficult mathematical problems in half an hour. They complete these once a month for five months. While the students found this extremely challenging, it was also very rewarding to successfully answer the problems.

Student leaders address our Assembly

Hi everyone. We are from the SLIP program and last Friday everyone read a one minute speech about the program. All the children did a fantastic job. Five children were chosen to perform at assembly. The five people are: Kelsey Sabrina Melony Ben and Daniel.

Here is a copy of their speeches.

BIKE SAFETY CHECK REMINDER

Just a reminder that all Year 3/4 students need to please bring their bikes to school this Friday, 6 November for a bike safety check in preparation for the Bike Education Program.

On Friday morning teachers will be outside their classrooms to direct storage of bikes. Please remind your child that once they are in the school grounds they need to walk with their bikes, not ride them, to their classroom. Bike checks will begin with Room 12 and move up through the room numbers.

We appreciate your support with this fun, educational program!
