Submitted by David F on Fri, 20/11/2009 - 12:42.What is lesson study?
Japanese Lesson Study (JLS) is a collaborative activity that involves a small team of three teachers gaining a deeper understanding of how students learn to improve student acheivement in mathematics. Teachers routinely share resources and ideas as they plan, design, teach, evaluate and refine lessons for a unit of work.
Throughout this process the teachers focus on making their lessons more effective as a means of improving students' thinking and learning. Reports generated from the lesson study experience can be shared with other teachers interested in implementing a similar professional learning process.

ELTHAM NORTH 2009 SOLAR ENERGY PROJECT
Submitted by David F on Thu, 15/10/2009 - 14:22.Eltham North Primary School has received $50 000 from the Federal Gov't Solar in Schools program and $15, 000 from the Victorian Solar in Schools Initiative (Sustainability Victoria). This has enabled the installation of a 5.2 kw Grid Connect Solar System complete with automatic monitoring system, and additional energy saving measures, including: installation of ceiling fans (in portables) and lighting upgrades - de-lamping, timers and efficient globes. Educational opportunities in the ENPS community about the technology and benefits of generating renewable solar energy will be provided with parent, student and teacher information sessions. Placement and monitoring of this system will further expand opportunities for promotion of sustainable practices and enhance energy reduction practices. The process will be documented on our school website – which is already a successful resource.
