Our past School Council President, Derek Clapton spoke at the Prep Information Night
"What great ambassadors our Preps and year 6 school captains are as well as our uniform models and such a hard act to follow.

On behalf of the Eltham North Primary School council Committee we welcome you for choosing our community for your children’s educational journey particularly those who are entering for the first time. This is the journey between kindergarten and secondary and/or tertiary education.

Much has been achieved at Eltham North through a well organised team of professional staff headed up by David Foley our Principal and Frank Butters coordinating with parents and staff (that includes teaching and office) to ensure the smooth running of the school.

As a parent in the local school community I can draw on my own experience at this school for the last seven years and we would encourage your involvement with the school on either an informal or formal basis.

The success of schools and in particular the Eltham North Primary School relies on the cooperative relationship between parents, teachers, staff, principal and the school council. Formal involvement can be in the form of nominating for school council and being involved in the governing of the school.

The main areas of responsibility are educational policy, management of the school’s resources (including buildings and grounds), and selection and employment of certain designated staff. The team is made up of parents and teachers. The school council meets every month except December and January and committees meet between council meetings and report back.

If you would like to provide your support to the school in a less formal way this could be achieved by involvement in committees such as Out of hours school care, a uniform, community events and services and working bees.

The school has one working bee each term to attend to the maintenance and upkeep of the school and its surrounds. This is an opportunity to meet with other parents and help maintain the schools appearance. The Working Bee is usually followed by a barbecue and only requires around 2.5 hours commitment each term to achieve our objectives.

As you enter the school for the first time your children’s prep teachers will be Sharon Ramsay who is also the prep coordinator, Sue James, Simone Juratowitch, Cara Granta nd Michelle Lucas.

Eltham North Primary School has achieved a number of awards including Sustainable Schools and won a new water tank from Bluescope Steel. We had a visit from Channel 9 last December to do the morning weather show.

The school has a website that has been carefully developed with the assistance of David Sedgers and the Principal. The school has a number of community events such as start of year and end of year barbecues in the park, film night and various other events.

We encourage you to visit our website that is continually updated and browse through the various areas of interest and read our newsletters, etc. The website can be found at www.elthamnorthps.vic.edu.au

With technology an ever increasing part of our lives we have a great computer technology curriculum program for children at all ages and this is continually being reviewed.

David Sedgers has been responsible for a great deal of the site improvements and we know by the number of website visits that it is increasingly becoming a central communication point for the school to deliver information in a medium that is easy to follow.

Minutes of school council meeting are on our website if you wish to view them to understand what issues are being dealt with currently.  We want make this education experience a journey that our children will enjoy and prepare them well for their secondary years.  If anyone has questions please contact our School Principal Mr David Foley or Prep Coordinator Sharon Ramsay.

School Principal, David Foley comments:

May I extend to you and your child a very warm welcome to Eltham North Primary School.

The school provides a unique learning environment, set in a semi-rural atmosphere with architecturally designed buildings that blend aesthetically into the peaceful bush setting. The grounds have been landscaped to cater for both active and passive play in shaded and protected areas.

The Primary years of schooling are of vital importance to the development of children’s skills, knowledge, understandings and attitudes to learning. At Eltham North Primary School we aim to enhance the development of all children socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually.

We believe that all children should be encouraged to develop their independence, self esteem, co-operative work skills and their creativity.

A strong partnership between the home and school ensures the provision of a quality educational program for our children. The curriculum is broad and innovative whilst still emphasising the importance of literacy and numeracy.

We share with you the excitement and the responsibility of ensuring a happy, secure and successful commencement to formal education. Please feel very welcome to join in all aspects of our school curriculum, in our teaching programs, class activities, school council committees and parent groups.

This handbook has been prepared to help you understand school routines and should be kept as a reference. With good knowledge of the school’s operation, parents are able to develop an effective partnership with the school for the benefits of their children.

Together with the school community, I look forward to participating with you in the many activities we have planned at Eltham North Primary School.

If at any time you wish to discuss any aspects of our school, or your child’s welfare, please feel free to contact me for a chat, or to arrange an interview time.

I look forward to working with you.

David Foley

This will also help to reduce the use of paper in our quest to sustain the environment and at the same time reduce unnecessary costs to deploy resources in more useful areas to advantage our children.
