Welcome to Term 4…

We hope that once again you had a safe and relaxing break.
Term 4 marks the beginning of the warmer weather. It is compulsory for students to wear hats when outside all term. Please ensure hats are clearly names and that you encourage your child to be responsible for their own hats. We encourage students to bring named drink bottles for use in the classroom.

The Write to Read Literacy program continues to operate in all Level 2 classrooms. Through this program spelling, grammar and vocabulary are explicitly taught. Elements of the WREAD program are integrated into the Early Years Literacy block. This term we will be writing information reports and narratives.

This term we are focusing on the following mathematical concepts:
·        Money
·        Fractions
·        Location
·        Chance

This term the Level 2 area will undertake a unit called Mini-beasts
and will explore, observe and describe a variety of insects!

The understandings for this unit are:
  • What makes mini-beasts unique and where they fit into the animal world
  • Special features and body structures of mini-beasts
  • Life cycles of mini-beasts and the importance of mini-beasts in our ecosystem
  • Students using words specifically related to mini-beasts
  • Students developing an appreciation of the diversity of life in the mini-beast world.
Students will be involved in many activities to help them come to understand Mini-beasts. Children will be attending an incursion and excursion to Imax and the Melbourne Museum and payment has been included on the Term Planner.
BEWARE your child may exhibit an interest in observing/collecting: caterpillars/butterflies, flies, ants, spiders, bees, worms and beetles at home!
Families are invited to share their own related experiences with their child’s grade.
Please speak with your child’s teacher if you can contribute to this unit.

The Level 2 team: Kate Doherty, Leonie Buchanan, Andrea Couper, Robyn Gibson, David Swierzbiolek and Lyndell Whiting.
