Grandpa Geoff visits the Year 5s

On the eventful morning of Pyjamarama, Tuesday, 1st August the year 5s were lucky enough to have the privilege of learning how people came to live on the goldfields. We invited an amazing, extremely knowledgeable grandparent of one of our Year 6 students, Grandpa Geoff, to come and educate us about surviving in the bush. The first thing he taught us was to always be prepared, mentally and physically. He then showed us how to make a fire using a range of different wood types and a birds nest, with some other techniques as well. He also taught us about different types of wood and their fire starting abilities. Later in the session, he demonstrated how to make Billy Tea like people did during the Gold Rush Era. Thank you Tabi and Geoff for your amazing demonstration about safety on the gold fields and survival in the bush.
